I believe that organizing the correspondences based on what type of correspondence would be the most effective. I ran into a lot of book reviews, and letters to and from colleagues. I imagine that most of his book reviews would have been written during a certain era of his career. Although, choosing to organize by date would be just as effective for that very reason. Perhaps we start with organizing based on type of correspondence and then organize those sections by date. It would be a good way of measuring his influence in the academic world. I worry that starting off organizing by date would cause some redundancy because of the amount correspondence from the peak of Hane’s fame. There is a lot to work with, although I’m not sure if all of it is worth keeping. Hence another reason why we should start by organizing based on type. Some may just be forms of spam mail or general announcements from Knox administration that have little to no appraisal value. I believe that grouping those together and removing them in one fell swoop would be ideal. There is also correspondence that may need to be restricted such as student interviews. Those are my thoughts on the matter. I have a feeling that there are a lot more factors to consider when deciding how to organize the correspondence.
